November 2020 - Plenty of progress has been made since the last post. The tender is now repaired and at the sandblaster in readiness for painting. The 3rd shaft gears have been turned and are at the machine shop getting the tooth profiles milled in. We have had an issue with the foundry so the axle upright wont be cast but will be fabricated, all parts have now arrived so progress can be made on this part

October 2020 - We have machined the 3rd shaft. The 3rd shaft gear blanks have arrived from the profile cutter. The diff gears have now been modelled. A bit if painting has been done on the back head also






July 2020 - As it continues to cool down progress on the engine keeps going. We have now stripped the old paint from the flywheel and given it a new coat. The 3rd shaft hub is back from metal spraying. All slide faces trued up and ready to be bolted back in.

June 2020 - No one ever said owning a traction engine was a cheap hobby and this week certainly reaffirmed that. We have received all the bronze for the 3rd shaft and axle also the 4140 shafting has arrived for the 2 shafts




June 2020 - The last week has seen the axle box guides being trued up, the compensating gear hub being machined ready for metal spraying and the removal of the bush to go into the new gear




May 2020 - As cleaning parts progresses the true state is uncovered. As was to be expected we have a few additional parts needing replacement. The RHS axle box and 3rd shaft carrier has quite a clear break. So we will add some temporary plates and some body filler and get it into the foundry for a new 1 to be cast.



April 2020 - Cleaning will be us for the next 3 weeks, so we have removed the spur gear ring from the hub. For all the engine has been through it has served us up the original part number and incase we weren't sure it's a A4 Fowler






March 28 2020 - Day 3 of lockdown. Engine stripping is now all complete, well as far as we need to go.
So now we will clean all components and formulate a plan for the repair/ replacement of each part.





March 27 2020 - Day 2 of Covid lockdown means more progress on removing more bits. More damage from when the engine went for a swim and general wear and tear.









March 26 2020 - 1st day of New Zealand's full lock down has seen a little further progress. Removal of 1 wheel then onto uncovering the worn gears that will be replaced in due course








March 21 2020 - With Covid19 effecting the world and including myself being confined to self isolation, i thought i may as well make use of the time to make some progress. So we have begun the back half strip down.I have also made some new brass fittings for the water lifter

February 2020 - Again apologies all page followers for the lack of posting. Rest assured work is progressing. The lagging is now painted and brass work being polished.
